Services Provided
I offer individual, couples, and group therapy for adolescents to older adults. I work with people encountering many different life issues, including but not limited to: depression and grief/loss, anxiety (panic attacks, phobia, OCD, PTSD), traumatic life events, Bipolar disorder, serious physical illnesses (HIV+, cancer, etc), relationship difficulties, cultural adjustment, parenting and family problems, controlling anger and other impulsive behaviors, and spiritual growth. I am fluent in both English and Japanese, and provide therapy in both languages.
Areas of Specialization
Depending on the client’s presenting issues, specific goals to achieve, and the readiness for changes, I apply the combination of different therapeutic approaches, including modern psychodynamic, object-relations, cognitive-behavioral, existential, and brief solution-focused therapy. I am experienced in couples therapy in which I mainly use Gottman Method. I also specialize in Cancer Counseling to help patints and family members adjust to the difficult diagnosis. I am trained in EMDR which is proved to be effective to treat PTSD. I am also experienced in facilitating groups (using Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) that teach behavioral skills to modify negative thinking patterns, control impulsive behaviors, and improve interpersonal relationships. The more important factor than the specific therapeutic techniques is, however, for me to be able to offer you the safe space for healing and growth to take place through the ‘here-and-now’ collaborative relationship.
I can help you cope with your feelings surrounding the diagnosis, treatment and side effects of cancer, and maintain the sense of control in your life. You may want to consider therapy if you are:
• Consumed and overwhelmed dealing with cancer
• Irritable and easily frustrated
• Afraid, scared and anxious
• Feeling like life is out of control
• Struggling with facing and managing treatments and side effects both physically and emotionally
• Feeling sadness and crying easily
• Having a difficult time concentrating or remembering things
• Having trouble sleeping
• Dealing about grief and terminal cancer
• Feeling isolated, alone and unable to talk about feelings
• Wanting a place to gather your thoughts and gain coping skills and tools
